The information you are learning can be a little overwhelming and you may feel daunted at first but I think you would prefer to know the truth about the direct relationship of diet and health. It is very empowering when you realise you don’t have to be one of the herd running towards the cliff edge and to recognize you are in a system that is based on money and that is why you have been conditioned by cooking shows, media, government relationships with industry, restaurants and by what you grew up with.
To move towards a plant based diet just start “crowding out” the bad foods and replace them with the good ones. Try a new recipe once a week, most of us are creatures of habit and like the same meals over again. You don’t have to learn 100`s of recipes, just a few that you like and once you have made them a few times it will become very easy! Clean out your panty and get rid of processed refined & junk foods, invest in some large glass jars for storing legumes, rice etc. Although it does take some effort and commitment It really is easier than you think and the health benefits are enormous. You will find the more high nutrient foods you eat the less cravings you will have as your body will be satisfied on a cellular level. Many people are overfed but malnourished and this is the platform for a myriad of diseases to develop.
The World Health Organisation have published the finding that red meat is a carcinogen and in particular processed red meat like bacon, salami etc., they have placed it on the same level as asbestos and smoking.
The world health organization (WHO) have projected that by 2020 chronic diseases account for 75% of deaths worldwide with heart disease topping the list followed by stroke, diabetes and the number of people in developing countries with diabetes will increase from 84 million to 228 million! This growth of chronic disease prediction is due to a change in diet from a plant based diet to a western style diet as these countries become more affluent. Chronic diseases are diseases of excess – way too much rich food i.e. animal flesh, eggs, dairy, fats, oils and sugars, refined carbohydrates and a severe lack of nutrient dense foods and fibre.
According to The Department of Health in 2012, 3.7 million Australians were effected by heart disease, stroke and other vascular diseases, 1.7 million have diabetes, 62% of us are overweight or obese, 44,000 people died from cancer in 2013 and auto immune disease effects 1 in 20 people according to the Australian society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy.
For the first time in our history a study published in the New England Journal Of Medicine have predicted that our children will live a shorter lifespan than us and obesity rates in Australia are dramatically rising. There is an answer to these problems and it is a straight forward uncomplicated change in diet and lifestyle, I will show you how easy and delicious it actually is.
We Need To Change for Our Health and Our Children`s Future On Planet Earth - scientists worldwide agree that 51% of Green House Gases are caused by the livestock industry and everything associated with it.
I have been eating a plant based diet since 2007 and my myriad of health issues have disappeared and my health has soared. I have lost a lot of excess weight but I am not perfect - I eat fish & drink wine on weekends to be social. My health has lifted again to another level since taking Ultra Life 1000 & Fucoidan Pure.
I feel younger now than I did in my 20`s, 30`s, and most of my 40`s and all of my health problems have been resolved! The best news for me is that I hardly ever get sick and I am empowered by my good health and no longer need to rely on a health system that focuses on masking the symptoms for the answers. There is a saying “Genetics loads the gun but diet pulls the trigger”
I will start with protein as it the main focus of the typical western diet and is usually the first question people ask - there is just as much protein in legumes gram for gram than red meat - it is more bioavailable, comes with no risk to health such as the links of saturated fat and heart disease or cancer and consuming animal based foods. Plant based protein also is packaged with 10,000s of other beneficial plant nutrients, fibre & delivers the correct amount of protein to our bodies. The following nutrients are either not provided or are in very inadequate quantities in animal based foods but are in much higher quantities in plants based foods:
Beta carotene, dietary fibre, vitamin c, folate, vitamin e, iron, magnesium. Calcium is also higher in plant based foods when comparing 500 calories of animal or plant based food and does not leave an acidic residue when metabolised, therefore your body does not need to take calcium out of your bones to balance your PH as in the case when consuming animal based foods. It is a myth that we need to consume animal based foods at all and there are very strong links to consuming animal based foods and many chronic diseases for example the link between cows milk protein and the trigger of Type1 diabetes in young children is stronger than the link between smoking and lung cancer or saturated fat and heart disease. There are strong links between consuming animal based foods with other autoimmune diseases like MS, Lupus.
The nutrition science is showing there are strong links between consuming animal based foods and cancer, alzheimers, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, cataracts, kidney stones, allergies, osteoporosis, skin disorders, insomnia and more. There are no studies that have confirmed a protective effect of animal based foods. Recently there was a summary done of 144 studies that have showed a very significant protective effect of fruits and vegetables on the human body.
There are 10,000`s of plant chemicals that scientists have not yet discovered that act in synergy to deliver the nutrients we need to be healthy. It is a very complex nutrient structure that nature has already sorted - we do not need to examine one microscopic aspect but to embrace the whole and we will get the right nutrients in the right amounts to live a full and healthy life in harmony with other species & with significant environmental benefits.
The World Cancer Research report 1997 states "Evidence that plants based foods protect & animal based foods enhance breast cancer is now convincing, however substantial benefit requires substantial shift to plant based foods." The weight of evidence from the growing mountain of nutrition research from all over the world all points towards a whole food plant based diet to meet all of out nutrient requirements.
